Why do these sort of things have to happen?

With the recent extinction of the Catfish in North America, I've begun asking myself why? why we as humans overfish, and let this sort of thing happen?

Catfish aren't extinct in North America. I think you are asking, "Why causes fish to go extinct?" Well, the answer to that question is fish go extinct because you are either overfishing or there is too much water pollution or not enough food.

Catfish are not extinct in North America.   People overfish because of greed or lack of concern for the future.

PS:   I think it will be a long time before catfish become extinct.   They are pretty tough, and adaptable.
