Shakir, AL-BAQARA,

Surah 2.62

Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve.

Shakir, AAL-E-IMRAN,

Surah 3.85

And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers.

Clearly the Jews and Christians adhere their desires to religions other than Islam.

Looks like to me the Muslim Allah can't make up his mind? Can someone explain this?

  1. The verses DO NOT contradict each other.

The first talks of BELIEVERS. The current udaism and christianity do not(in terms of Islam) fall under monotheistic belief.

The second verse is not even talking about Judaism and Christianity but talking about People in general who do not accept the true monotheistic faith...

but seriously we arent scholars and you should stop trying throw a mish-mash of verses trying to mislead people.

    edit to your edit:

If you read the verses IN context and IN arabic you would BOTH of your statements are true. Allah(SWT) DOES state those conditions.

  2. hey stupid. you're supposed to understand the verse!

the muslims were worried about their forefathers. they worried that Muhammed came to us now but what abot those who died b4 the prophethood of Muhammed(SAW). So it's like all those b4 Muhammed(saw) who died as a christian or jews and saabi'eens will get Jannah.

the other verse is after the prophethood.

you want proof to prove that bible has not been altred? fine!

    read luke ch1vs2,3.

if luke says that he himself is not an eyewitness and the knowledge he gathered was from eyewitnesses &not as words inspired by God do you still believe that the bible is holy?

conflicting staterments prove that it's not holy.and is changed cuz god will never conflict. yes maybe if you believe in trinity god must have said sumting to the holy spirit but he didnt want it that way so he said sumting to the son . then fine. but if that didn't happen then there would'nt be any conficts unless man has changed!

  3. Explanations include:

    1) It only refers to the original Jews and Christians who didn't hear the corrupted version of their religion.

    2) It only refers to the Jews and Christians until the time of the last prophet. It was impossible for them to follow the true teaching if only corrupted texts existed, so they're not punished for that. This mercy ended after the last prophet revealed the quran.

    3) It refers to Christians and Jews today. This is why muslim men are allowed to marry Christian and Jewish women, since Allah wouldn't allow muslims to marry polytheists or misguided people.

    4) It refers to Christans and Jews today who practice the original Judaism and Christianity. Since all texts are lost, this is effectively impossible.

I don't know the right answer. My quran also says "are", not "were".
