Why do these wives show up at the press conferences?

Obviously by now, everyone knows that the Govenor of New York got caught cheating on his wife by going to a call girl. Why do these wives show up to the press conferences? They have been humiliated. Is it love?

When I saw her on TV this evening, I wondered the same thing. Perhaps she doesn't care and knew about his extra-marital activities.But as you suggested, it probably is love.

Perhaps she is just in shock and is there because the person she still loves asked her to and told her things she wanted to hear. Having had a similar sudden shock and having been unable to believe the person I loved could be this other person, I think that is most likely.It will take her awhile ...

Sometimes there is forgiveness or pretense for the children, but more than likely it is the beginning of the end.

I felt very sad for her.

Good question but maybe their absence would raise even more questions and lead to more unfavorable inferences and more ugly publicity.  This way, they can at least go through the motions of support and maybe start on a path of reconciliation.

Because their whole identities are caught up in their husbands careers and they are fearful of losing that affluent lifestyle so they do what ever it takes to try and hold onto it.

If I were her, while he was giving a press conference, I'd be meeting with the biggest pit-bull of a divorce lawyer I could find.

But who knows how the mind of a political wife works.
