Question:

Why do they always burn?

Whenever I make cakes, large or small or biscuits they burn at the bottom after about 5-10 minutes.

I don't understand why?

It has only ever happened to me since using this cooker. I have always made cakes and never have they burned.

With cakes I use cake tins or those little cup-cake paper things. With biscuits I put them on either a metal tray or an over proof ceramic.

Also, I have tried cooking at a lower than advised temperature but this doesn't work. I put them in the middle of the over too.

Could it be the oven?

Please help, this is so frustrating and I hate throwing away burnt cakes :-(

  1. It could be the oven, if you noticed that then reduce the heat and don't forget to spray butter or something at the bottom before you put the cake or any of that in.

Bake them at the very top of the oven so that it wont get extream heat.

  2. try using an oven with a fan, this regulates the temparature around the oven. you also have to raise the temparature. i cook alot and this is sure to help. =]

  3. Have you tried raising the oven rack that you put them on?  Everything may be too close to the source of heat.  Good luck!

  4. Have you changed from a gas to an electic oven or vice versa?  I had a terrible time adjusting when I moved and went from using a gas oven to an electric one!  At first I burnt everything!  Then I learnt that I had to adjust my temperature, raise my oven racks, shorten baking times and use better pans.  I also cannot bake 2 pans of anything at a time anymore.  Now I have far fewer difficulties.  I switched from using regular cookie pans to the "air bake" pans.  That helped a lot.  I also had to lower the temperature I bake everything from 25 to 50 degrees.  25 degrees lower for lower temperatures (250-350 degrees) and 50 degrees lower for things at higher temperatures (375 and above).

So yes, it might very well be your oven!  Try setting your timer for 10-15 minutes before the time the recipe says to take your cakes out.  Then check them every 5 minutes after that.  Remember, the cake is done when the middle springs back from a light touch or when an inserted knife comes out clean.

  5. Try lining your baking sheets with parchment paper. I used to have the same problem until I started using that.

  6. try dusting your pan with flour. Also do a much lower temp. It might take longer, but hey, you won't have't to throw out, and if that doesnt work , then try just flipping the cake over once cooled, take a nice flat knife, and cut very lightly off, then take another plate/flat sheet and flip back over and then put on your icing..

  7. Try lining your cake tin or tray with baking paper or something like that. Hope this helped. :)

  8. It could be the oven, but I'm thinking maybe the oven isn't fully preheated before you put your cakes in?  Either that or you leave the door open too long while putting your baked goods into the oven, which caused the heating element to turn on again to get the oven up to temp, which will cause the bottoms to burn.
