  1. St. Joseph and the Virgin Mary are descendants from David. So, Jesus being the Son of Mary and taking her flesh, is the Son of David.

  2. Because he is a direct descendant of King David ( of David and Goliath) through his father.

  3. Because Jesus was a descendant of King David, through Mary (His mother)

  4. Because the flesh of Jesus Christ came from the generation of David.

Revelation 22:16  I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

  5. By His maraculous birth, he was the son of God. If you follow His human lineage though, through either Mary or Joseph, He is a descendant of King David also. Thanks for asking!

  7. Jesus was a direct descendant of David on both sides of the family tree

  8. i was about to ask the same question. im so confuse. i know why they call him son of god but i have no idea about son of david

  9. Matthew's Gospel gives a genealogy of Jesus, tracing his linage back to King David, showing the importance of his birth.

But in Luke, it says that we should not pay attention to genealogies, as they don't really matter.  Just another example of how the bible contradicts itself.

  10. Jesus is part of David's family tree.

  11. Because he was never the son of God and it was proven.

  12. There is no simple answer to this question. Joseph could have adopted Jesus giving him birth rights to his lineage. The line could have actualy been that of Mary but since she was a woman, Joseph gets that title instead. Jewish naming is prodominantly male so even if Mary is actualy the one who was a decendant of David, the credit goes to her husband.  There is no solid proof of either an adoption or explanation for Joseph being named in Mary's lineage instead of her.

  13. Matthew calls Jesus son of David, a title of the rightful heir to Israel's throne.

    Jer 23:5

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

  14. Understand the culture the saying comes from.

There are a number of times through out the Old testament where it will say person Z is the son of person A when in fact there is a whole line of people (B through Y) in between.

In that context it is not literally saying person A is the father of person Z but Z is in the line of descendants of A. Its a literary short cut if you will and happens in a number of places.

So in saying Jesus is the Son of David it is not meant literally but to show he is in the direct line of decent from David.

Blue_153: Joseph did adopt Jesus and it was proven by the fact that he married her. Had he not then they would not have gotten married.

As to Joseph being in Mary's liniage as listed in Luke. Heli had no sons and under Jewish law as laid down in the OT Joseph became as a son to him in order that his line would not die out. Thus Joseph is listed as Heli's son in accordance with Jewish law.

  15. The Messiah must be David's descendant.
