Why do they call Rugby Football?

I know Rugby's full name is Rugby Football, but lets face it, the foot on the ball ins't such a big part of the sport. You can score goals from kicks and punt as well, but then if you COUNT the times the ball comes in contact with the feet, its probably under 20 times an average game, as opposed to passing the ball with arms probably hundreds of times a match. In Football(soccer) the ball comes to contact with the feet and is kicked over 1000 times an average game, hence FOOTball.

So why do players during interviews say "yeah.. we played some good football today".. I'm just like.. wat the h**l, the word football doesn't justify what you did on the field. If they said "yeah, we played some good rugby today" Or "yeah we played some good hugging-the-ball-and-running" today then that'll be more appropriate.
