  1. Collete - no never heard of it. Clootie dumpling is type of steamed sweet dumpling but the word "clootie" refers to how the dumpling is made, ie in a cloth. So the word for dumpling is really just "dumpling", unless of course you speek Gaelic, then it would be "bonnach-praise"(clootie dumpling).

  3. They actually call it a clootie, and it's not even a dumpling. It's basically a dessert pudding cooked by wrapping up a dough mixture in a floured cloth and then boiling it in water. Then, the bag is dried by baking it. It's called a clootie because "clootie" refers to the strip of cloth wrapped around the pudding dough.. It's called a dumpling because the clootie wrapped around the pudding mixture looks like a dumpling
