Why do they call and name it Silicon valley?

  1. The name comes from all of the high technology companies in the area that work on transistors and chips for computers, as well as software.  Silicon is a key ingredient in making these chips, and since these companies are so prevalent in the area, it was coined "Silicon Valley" by Ralph Vaerst in the tradepaper "Electronic News."
