How did they come up with the name Severe Macaw and where did that originate from?

  1. It's from the latin species name, Ara severa.  "Severa" means serious.  I don't know why it was called that.  Perhaps because it's the largest of the mini-macaws, and the only one that has facial feather patterns like the big macaws?
