Why do they censor license plates on tv?

I am bored and figured I would ask what is the point of blocking out car license plates on tv?

they are blocked out so that the bored people of the world( like you for asking this and me for answering it) from tracing down the owner of the car and harassing them.  It also has to do with the rights of the individual to show it. much like when you see a program where some people's faces are shown and others are not. The production company does not have the authorization form the person to show them.

Because peoples information is registered with the car registered with that license plate, and there are ********* that will s***w around with it if they see it.
