Wonder what happens to them seems a waste.

Wouldn't it make more sense if they gave the mascot. Then as well as the medal they would have a keepsake which could be valuable in year's to come.

  1. I don't know but Michael Phelps must have a florist's shop by now!

  2. Tradition and because they are pretty??

  3. In the ancient Olympics in Greece, the athletes did not win medals, but a laurel wreath (made or branches and leaves) was placed on the winner's head. Now, a medal is placed around the athlete's neck, and they are awarded flowers as a tie to the leaves and branches of the wreaths.

  4. To keep the 'other side' happy.

  5. It covers up the smell of the sweaty armpits :-)
