  1. If the WR is broken at the Olympics, then they only list the WR

but it is just a way to show records of the Olympics

WR can be set at any sanctioned event

  2. Because a world record is just that. Fastest ever  in the world. Olympic record is just that. Fastest ever at the Olympics. Surely you can see that these two things can be different... unless the world record has just been set at the Olympics. But the world record, being that it is a 'world record' is not only tied to the Olympics. It can be broken in any sanctioned competition.

  3. An Olympic record is the best performance, whether time or distance, at the Olympics held once every four years. The World record is the best performance at any occasion including the Olympic, therefore u can break the World record at the Olympics. The Olympics is the biggest event, therefore it was seen necessary to separate its records from any other.

  4. The Olympic is special and it's nice to have separate records.

  5. Because the Olympic Record is the record for that competition.  You can break the World Record outside of the Olympics.

  6. The World Record is the best that any athlete has done at any competition.  The Olympic Record is the best that any athlete has done in the Olympic Games only.

  7. You have to wait 4 years to break an Olympic record but can break a world record any time

  8. Because the Olympic records are only to be broken during the competitions, while World records which may be broken by any individual not just an Olympic athlete can by broken at any time. Besides world record have a wider variety of categories, not only sports.
