  1. To keep an eye on your progression, baby's vital signs, your vital signs, and baby's position as you near labor.

  2. Oh, it's more then just every week near the end.  When you go past 40 weeks it's twice a week.

To monitor you to prevent pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, HELLP and anything that might threaten your health.  To monitor the fetus for growth, amniotic fluid level, activity, and to have an idea of how soon it might be for you so they can have an idea what's coming up.  Every time you go in they check your glucose level and protein level in your urine, your blood pressure, and how you look in general to them (which tells them a lot).  There are a lot of complications that can be avoided by simply monitoring you this way, and the best way is via weekly appointments.

  3. They just want to make sure you and baby are ok, a lot can happen in a week.

  4. Hi there,

the reason you have to go to the doctors every week in the last month of pregnancy is to make sure that you are going along the way you should be going. To make sure that you are showing signs of going into labour natuarly. That the babies head is moving down properly and that you do not get last min complications.

they dont make you go just for the sake of it there is reason behind it all.

Good luck in your last couple of weeks and hope the labour is not too long for you.
