I've always thought Peeves the was the most entertaining and funny character, I mean he's just so annoying and obnoxious that he just makes the books so much better . But they leave him out in the movies ?

The movies would be so much better if they put Peeves in it he's just such an amusing character, even more so then Fred and George .

Am I the only one that feels this way ?

  1. Haha. I like him too.

    Don't know why :/

My fave is Draco though sorry <3

  2. There were already a lot of ghosts in the first film, and, you must remember, that CGI was still largely unexplored territory back then, as to its full capabilities.  Having ghosts appear out of table and food and walls is one thing, because they don't disturb their surroundings at all, you just need some skilled artists to pull it off.

However, Peeves would have to be able to interact with his surroundings in a much more real way than Sir Nicholas, or the inexplicable Captain Hook / Bloody Baron.

It will sort of bite them in the butt though, because Peeves was important, because with a mention of Peeves there was almost always a mention of the Bloody Baron, the only ghost that could control him, and the BB and the Grey Lady turned out to have minor, but nonetheless key parts in Deathly Hallows.

Also, Peeves was not really a ghost, so he didn't look like a conventional human.  For the ghosts, it was a lot easier to make them, since they could just film John Cleese, and then make him all light blue and see-throughey and paste him over a scene of young students reacting to thin air.

For Peeves, they would need to do a Dobby-style CGI routine, and seeing as Peeves was not nearly as important as Dobby, WB probably decided they had neither the technology nor the money to put in this movie-lengthening ghost that isn't actually a ghost and might scare the children.

That's another reason why they didn't put Peeves in: WB didn't know who exactly would see the films, and they weren't prepared for the intensity of this fandom.  WB guessed that mostly middle school and unders would see it with their parents, so they had leave out some stuff, and candy coat it as much as possible.

If Alfonzo Cuaron had directed the first movie, Peeves would be in there, no doubt.  But some things don't change after their first incarnation, so a lot of Columbus's ideas and vision is still seen in the current movies, though mostly in the form of things left out.

Lastly, my favorite Peeves moment was also in OotP, when Fred and George fly off yelling "Give her h**l for us, Peeves!" and Peeves whips into a salute at STUDENTS.  I just loved the fact that Peeves would sort of listen to someone besides the BB - good ol' Gred and Forge.

However, his victory song was pretty nifty too.

  3. What I don't get is why they leave good characters like that out, but feel the need to include talking shrunken heads in the bus! (Harry Potter and and Prisoner of Azkaban)

I mean, I get that the ride would have been really boring without that little but of sustenance, but really?

There are some other really small characters that I've noticed that they've left out too.

I can't really name any off the top of my head because not only has it been a while since I've read a book/watched the movies, but it's also late...if anyone cared. lol

  4. I have always loved Peeves too and found him very funny in the books.  I hated that they left him out of the movies, but its understandable that they cant include everything.  I just wish they could have kept him in.  He would only need to pop up randomly and every so often in the films, no big deal, but I guess the filmmakers felt he wasnt necessary and the special effects it would have cost to add him in just wasnt worth the time and money.

Interestingly, Peeves was originally intended to appear in the first film and even filmed a few scenes.  British actor Rik Mayall (Drop Dead Fred) was to play him.  The scenes were obviously cut and have never been released (I would love to see them!) and they continued that in the remaining films.  And now it is probably too late to add him back into the mix without any explanation, unfortunately.

My favorite Peeves moment from the books is when he is continuing Fred and George's mayhem against Umbridge after they leave Hogwarts. He is trying to unscrew the chandelier and McGonagall walks by ans whispers to him that it unscrews the other way.

  5. i personally found him annoying

  6. I would have cost a lot of money to make Peeves and he isn't really a necessary character. I wish that they'd put more of Dobby in the movies, actually.
