Why do they list gas as$3.11(9/10) a gal.., but we pay $3.12 a gal. Who gets the 1/10?

  1. The other posters are correct. However, you know Bush is getting the most share of all of it.


  2. You should not be.  Do the math, multiple the gallon pumped * 3.119 and that should be the price you pay.

    Example

    20 gallons * 3.119 = 62.38

    20 gallons * 3.12 = 62.40

  3. Nobody gets it, because you pay for the gasoline purchased.  When was the last time you bought EXACTLY one gallon of gasoline?

    The fractional pricing is due to taxation.  The web link below show federal ( 18.4 cents/gallon) and state taxes.  Most cases cause gasoline to be a fraction of a penny.

  5. You get the1/10. When it says $3.11(9/10) that's what you are paying. In Iowa our gas is $ 2.84(9/10) per gallon
