  1. It would be worse if they were straight

  2. Hi Vapour

It was simply to allow the cord to extend!.

If it was straight then there would bea long lead lying aorund, over the past few years i have been asked more and more to install flexi cords, some upto 5m long which extend to over 7m! recently a 10m cord... there cheap too...

    good luck

  3. Originally the handset cords were straight but sometime in the 1940's they developed the curly cord to provide the length needed but reduce the table space the straight cord required.  Straight cords often became tangled or got caught on other items.  The curly cord reduced this possibility.

  4. So they can stretch. They start off about 2 foot and stretch to 10 foot ish.

  5. I recommend cordless.  Curly cords get tangled easily.

  6. To annoy us or for extra length (when curls straightened out).

  7. Telephone wires are designed curly, so that it can be extended up to some distance, while u pull the receiver from Base.By curling not only the distance is optimised but also can be pulled for longer distance when u required.

  8. so the wire doesnt get all knotted up.

  9. too make the cord stretchy.

  10. if you had a long piece of wire it would just flaparound everywhere whereas because its curly it always springs back into the original shape

  11. Got cordless here too.  They don't tangle if everyone is of the same handedness.  However, you get 3 right handers and one left hander -they tangle up.  Pain in the posterior.
