Why do they mostly sell cigarettes, alcohol and perfume at the duty-free stores?

  1. These are typically "high tax" items that are easy to carry and popular to buy. For example, a carton of Marlboro is usually $15 - $25 in duty free. It can be over $50 a carton in the States or over $90 a carton in the UK. Big savings.


  2. Because a furniture item is to big to get into the plane!

  3. Because people are more likely to buy items relating to their vices maybe, and that items like that are taxed more... maybe.   Not saying my input is accurate.
