I live in Oklahoma, USA and my girlfriend lives just outside of Manila, Philippines. I have been trying to explain to her what lightning is and why I can not be online during a storm because of potential damage to my computer from a lightning strike. She said that they do not have lightning during storms there. Is this correct and if so, why not ?

  1. look for Geography

  2. They do have lightning in the Philippines.   I have a provided a link from the Philippines depicted lightning and lots of it.  Some areas of the world have less, but wherever you have thunderstorms,  you WILL have lightning.

  3. maybe just because its tropical wheather there

  4. We do have lightning storms here in the Philippines. Every where in the Philippines, there are lightning storms happening. I can attest to that personally since I always see lightning during storms through my window. Lightning is called different name here. Kidlat is lightning. Since she lives outside of Manila, perhaps it's called a different name depending on the dialect of the province.

  5. My best guess is they don't have the radically different warm and cold fronts there as we do it stays close to the same temperature all year round. Not saying it doesn't get cold there but it doesn't shift so rapidly.
