Question:

Why do they not make longer?

I sort of know why but I forgot and my brother still insist that a really long snorkeler would work, will someone tell me exactly why it wouldnt?

  1. The snorkel limits you to keeping close to the surface for your own safety - besides if it were any longer it would be unwieldy - you'd have someone's eye out! By the way do you remember that they used to have the snorkel tubes with a bend at the top and a ping pong ball inside - to stop the water coming down the tube ( I wonder how many people nearly suffocated with those!


  2. The snorkel brings to the wearer air at atmospheric pressure. However, the chest and lungs have to expand against the pressure of the water at the depth where they are, and that pressure increases rapidly with depth. Even with a normal snorkel, it's perceptibly harder to breathe than it is normally. The longer the snorkel, the greater the effort.
