Why do they refer to oil as "light sweet crude oil"?

  1. Low sulfur content which makes for less pollution and lighter viscosity which makes it easier to extract and refine. The term "sweet" came from the 19th century practice of tasting the stuff, oil with a lower sulfur content has a slightly sweet taste.


  2. crude oil is oil that has not been refined.

    sweet oil means it has a low sulfur content.

    I don't know about light but i think it has to do with the density.
