Why do they say pit bulls are so mean????????

thats so mean is'nt thatit depands how you train them and take care of them. i love pit bulls.!!they should not be so mean to them!! i think it is beacause of how the have the name bull in it sense bulls are so mean. don't you!! THIS IS FOR ALL ANIMAL LOVERS!!!

The word "Bull" has nothing to do with the conception of pitbulls having mean dispositions.  Go to school, learn how to spell, and educate yourself before posting questions.

People are mean about pitbulls because they know that pitbulls were trained to fight. It's in their blood. I have seen pitbulls that are sweeter than typical family dogs (such as golden retreivers). However, because of genetics, there's always an opportunity that they could turn on their trainer or others. BUT, this is with ANY dog. Not just pitbulls. People are sometimes just too ignorant to realize that any dog can turn on anyone.

Well most people say that its because of there past in dog fighting, some say that its because there known to protect there owners no matter what,some say its because there apperance but some are just ignorent and decide that because everyone says there bad they are and go on what other people say.

I'm an animal lover... but pit bulls have traits that were bred into them, no amount of training can take away. You can have a great pit bull and one day it could attack someone. It's just how it is. It's our own fault, we bred them. But they don't make good family pets, or good pets in small neighborhoods. If you have a lot of land, and no small children and you can train the dog extremely well, go for it. But precautions need to be made, each breed has it's problems, pit bulls have more serious ones.

EDIT: Yes, it is about how you train them, but you can't take the fight out of the dog. You just can't. I'm not saying having a pit bull is wrong, I'm saying not being prepared and not taking precautions is wrong. Stupid people are the problem, it isn't the dogs.

i personally dont want a pit bulls not because i think they are mean just not my cup of tea, however i love rottweilers and they have the same rep... its all because some IDIOT thought lets fight dogs so they choose dogs like the rotti or a pit bull, because they are naturally a strong dog and protecter(meaning a dog who could whoop your butt if needed) the only thing is these sickos have went out and made the IF needed into a need by starving them and beating them so they will fight ...  making it hard for some people to look at these certain dogs without thinking OMG  this thing is evil..... Blaim the Crime not the Breed.......... but pit bulls are getting banned more and more just like rotti's so... heres to hoping people open there eyes

A properly raised pit bull can be very sweet and loving, and extremely obedient.  The problem is that Pit Bulls are dominant by nature.  They require owners that will have a consistant and firm hand when it comes to raising them.  As long as the dog understands that they're not in charge, and that their owners don't need their protection, they're happy, well adjusted, and well behaved.  

The problem with most pit bulls is that people don't know how to properly raise them.  If you let the dog have the upper hand, and be the dominant one, you'll have aggresion issues, and behavior problems.  Not everyone can raise a well rounded dog, whether it's a pitt bull or not.  People don't do their research to find out what's required before they get a dog, and that's where the problems start.

It is instinct.  These are animals.  All dog breeds react differently, that why they are bred.  You go hunting with a hunting dog because it is what they are good at etc...

Pit Bulls are killers.  All dogs can bite if provoked, the difference is that a Pit Bull doesn't know how to bite, it only knows how to kill.  And yes, it is ALWAYS the first time.  They shouldn't be bred, it is not the dogs fault.   Dogs are dogs, not people, different breeds do different things.  Here is a nice news story for all you Pit Bull owners.

BTW--although Cocker Spaniels will nip at people more than most dogs, you have never heard of anyone being killed by one!!  They nip and run away.  That is how their breed is.

pitbulls have a terrible reputation because their are lots of stupid people that use them in dog fight rings and just think its funny to train them to be vicious. so therefore when there is a dog attack its usually a pitbull that is responsible. yes, they do have fighting in their blood, but they are usually trained to bring that out big time. just like you can train any dog to be vicious.

you are right but I was told pit-bulls are called this because they were bred to fight bulls but this could just be a thought but people think they are mean because people fight them. generally the breed is nice, but i have met many fighting Pitts they are just fighting for love. when they don't win they either get killed or badly injured. I have met a very VERY sweet pittbull who EVERY1 loves, she was used to fight and on her legs and face are horrifying scares that make you want to cry, but she has had hope she still attacks every dog she sees but she loves humans sometimes I'll go in her cage and just pet her all day and she loves it she just wants love and people don't understand them just like people don't understand German Shep's or rotts. I have three pets, 1 rott 1 German Shepard and 1 cat the little girls(dogs) love everyone but play a little rough sometimes but they are just begging for love becuz they had rough starts, for instant bailey my rott was abused and she now is still afraid of people hitting her, but like any other dog she will come to you when your sad and just lay there trying to make you happy. like all dogs they just want to please.

Anyone who says Pit Bulls are naturally aggressive is WRONG WRONG WRONG! It is only because they are trained many times to be fighting dogs. Also, all we hear about is them eating babies and stuff that people think they are born this way. Any dog can be trained to fight and kill, just like any human. Dont corrupt these precious creatures. They deserve a good life.
