Question:

Why do they say the SAT test benifits males?

I always thought it was because of sexist school counciler's pushing female students to take it while pushing male students to drop out...

Because if only male students who take it are high achievers and both female high achievers and under achievers take it, it would lower the female average for the test.

Could be wrong since that information is not available to the public(number of how many boy's and girl's took the test).

Only the average grade by gender is available.. how convienent.

I wounder if there is any way to either get that info or dispell the feminist myth about SAT tests?

  1. SAT's don't benefit any children, it's so thatthe schools can try and prove they are teahcing well. Stress for kids for no good reason.

  2. Honestly, I have no idea.  I think just so they have something more to complain about.

  3. The test is actually more of a measure of your socioeconomic background than what you've actually learned. It's been shown that those who come from weathier families do better on the tests than those who come from poorer families.

Also, when I was in high school over 30 years ago, I only had to take one algebra class the entire time. Most upper level math classes were electives and generally, only those who were planning to pursue engineering majors in college took them. In those days, you did not have to be an expert on advanced math to go to college. The truth is that for most people, these classes are a waste of time. That's because most of them will never have an opportunity to apply what they learned in their jobs or everyday life and will largely forget everything. Don't believe me? My husband is a computer technician and has been one for over 25 years. He's almost never had to use the math he had to learn in his college classes. In fact, in the mid-1990s, he was taking some computer science courses and needed to take a trigonometry class. By that time, he had not taken a single math class in over a decade and didn't really know this particular subject either. In other words, he went into it cold. He's always been good at math so he picked it right up even though he hadn't really done any complicated math problems in years. He got an "A" in the class.

  4. Traditionally women were discouraged by their schools from taking upper level science and math classes, and the SAT is 50% math and sciences, and only 50% language skills.  Unless you are going into a field that requires math or science, knowledge of math and science is completely unrelated to your chances of doing well in College, but all degrees require language skills.

Now, I don't think there is a difference, but it is still ridiculous to exclude someone from and education based on a lack of math skills if they are going to major in history, or a social science.

  5. because "they" are whiners looking for a free lunch......

  6. I would say that the SATs benefits males because of differences between the sexes.

Taking the SAT is generally stressful. There is often a lot riding on the outcome of that test. It is true that a males performance usually is positively affected by a moderate level of stress. A females performance usually suffers negative affects from any level of stress.

Changing it would be giving advantage to females while denying the stress that males need to do their best.

  7. Because it just does. I'm pretty sure your precious men did the research come on now Kris W can you not trust anyone anymore not even your own kind.

  8. Because it has math questions in it.

Serious answer: Southern states make every senior student take the SAT regardless if they want pursue college or not. Northern states limit those whom take the test and they use irrational subsets to feel superior.

  9. why would you ask?

  10. That's.....

Consider the following: If a test gives the wrong results, it would do the opposite  of helping universities to choose better students, so the SAT would be considered a joke.

In a world in globalization world, it doesn't matter who you are or what gender you are, it matters what you can do.

  11. Because maybe they do better at it. Conspiracy theorists will always come up with excuses to explain their shortcomings. Probably why most ppl who actually achieve don't come up with conspiracy theories.. no need

"The world is out to get me" "If only I too was targetted for special treatment"

    It gets pathetic
