Why do they use saturated salt solution in soap??

  1. A saturated salt solution is used in soap making to cause the curds of soap made from boiling a fat and lye (NaOH) to clump together.


  2. Water can dissolve soap.  But water also dissolves NaCl.  Most soaps are sodium salts. If you saturate the water with NaCl, then it can't dissolve the soap because the level of sodium ions is already at a maximum.  It's called the double ion effect.
