Why do they wet the hocky pitch?

Watching the Olympics at 2 in the morning and keep seeing the spray come up when they hit the ball. Persumed it was just raining earlier. then in the break they spray it with massive hoses... Why do they do that? What are the benefits?

Why can't Field Hockey get it's own section? If Handball and it's 10 whole questions( Look out,  stampede!!) has one, so should field hockey.  Maybe try the Olympics section.

It's called a hockey "RINK", and it's always frozen
