this may sound like a dumb question, but think about it, why do things get darker when they get wet??????/

  1. When objects are wet rather than dry, they absorb more light.

    For example, some clouds are darker than others because they contain more moisture. In that situation, more incoming solar radiation is being absorbed, which allows less light to strike your eyes, and therefore make it appear as if it is darker.


  2. Most dry things that are light colored are scattering light off the tops of many particles.  When the object is wet, the water fills in the tiny valleys so there are fewer points to scatter light so less light reaches the eye and it looks darker.
