Why do third base and first base coaches in minor league baseball have to wear helmets?

Minor League coach Mike Coolbaugh got hit by a line drive last year and died.  Baseball passed a rule this year to make it mandatory for all base coaches to wear helmets.

I think it was last season or the previous, but a third base coach got hit by a line drive in the head and died from those injuries. Safety first.
