Why do third base and first base coaches in minor league baseball have to wear helmets?

  1. Minor League coach Mike Coolbaugh got hit by a line drive last year and died.  Baseball passed a rule this year to make it mandatory for all base coaches to wear helmets.


  2. Mike Coolbaugh of the Colorado Rockies, was struck in the head with a line drive last year and died. Baseball passed the rule requiring the coaches to wear helmet.  However, many coaches wore them already.
