  1. Because they are stupid!!

One time I took my girlfriend to this fancy French reasturant, I actually had to reserve a  spot 1 month early, anyways the bill was like $350 por like a pound of food (for us two), & gues what??

They charged me $10 dollars for a glass of water I order after the meal, plain water in a cup, so then, we had never gone to another HIGH CLASS rippstaurant, I stay with the mid-class ones better.

10 dollar for water only in america!!!

  2. The phenomenon of small portions is more related to French cuisine than high class restaurants. It so happens that many high class restaurants are French, but if you go to a staekhouse and pay $30 for your plate, you won't be hungry when you leave.

  3. idk but it's soo annoying!! I was in NYC once and they give me and my family each one tiny roll. There wasn't even like a basket filled with bread. We each got one roll on a plate. IT WAS RLLY GOOD THO!! :)

  4. quality of ingredients, presentation & plus they really don't want you to be filled up that you don't get to enjoy or savor the meal. you end up going home not bloated and feeling heavy.

i end up buying some fast food on my way home sometimes when we get invited to this high class places. i end up enjoying my burger and fries more though :)

  5. in restaurants like that its all about art. cooking is an art form so when ur a chef in a high class restaurant its all about the look of the food as well as the taste. so they always try to make it look as elegant as possible. which makes the portions smaller.

  6. That way they can earn more money.

  7. that and it tastes incredibly rich - not money..like if you eat too much you'll get sick

  8. Your body doesn't need a lot of food like the fast food places serve you, its harmful to your health. If you are and athlete in training then you will need more food. If you are a couch potatoe then what you get at a HC restaurant is excellent. Usually lots of protein and veg over 5 or 6 courses equals a well balanced meal, the ambiance and the quality of waiters along with a well trained chef are what elevates the price.

If you wanna save money, get fat, die young, eat fast food and lots of it. If you want a great experience, live a little, get more bang for your buck then splash out on a fantastically well thought out maserpiece of cullinary delightfullness and go HC.

  9. Because high class people believe that stuffing yourself at a meal is low class behavior.

To high class people, eating is an art rather than a necessity.

It separates them from the lower classes who believe going to a buffet is "a good deal".

  10. Because you are sup-post to savor the food and not scarf it down

  11. I don't know. I guess so that they can have more to serve to more people and make more money.

  12. GREED?

  13. They do that beause they expect it to taste good, be presented nice, and all the while they have enough food to feed the rest of the guest.

  14. The amount of courses you eat??

  15. Usually the individual plates are small because there are many courses to the meal. Many restaurants that serve these types of meals will have up to 9 courses.

  16. There's usually several courses, so you do end up getting a decent amount of food... with the salad, soup, main course, dessert, etc.

  17. quality, not quantity. and considering the price of the ingredients, it makes sense. anyway, the food is generaly quite rich...

yer better off with cheez on toast =D

  18. High Class restaurants tend to serve appropriate portion sizes along with better quality ingredients.  Portion sizes in this country are out of control, higher end restaurants maintain the appropriate meal size.

  19. I think it probably has to do with the elegance and elaborate preparation that is associated with higher-class cuisine. The ingredients they are using are also first rate, so making large portions of them would end up becoming extremely expensive.

  20. idk haha good question, you pay so much & you get so little

    hmm :(

  21. Because technically were suppose to eat small portions at a time rather than 3 big ones cause its an easier way to lose weight and wont cause you to have upset stomach or heart burn as much. Plus fancy resturants want to make a profit off a little bit of food cause normally the stuff they sell is more expensive to buy or cook rather than a greasy cheese burger from mcdonalds. And usually they do serve you a several course meal which usually includes soup, salad, and dessert.
