  1. They come to the US for the perks, the competition in the NCAA also with the hopes of being noticed. If the amateur career is of high quality, some sponsor may latch on.


  2. More colleges offering scholarships, and if you attend one in the south you can play golf all year long.  How many universities in the UK offer a full scholarship to play a sport?  Very few in comparison to the number in the US.

  3. The opportunities for student athletes are far greater in the USA.  When a golfer can get a 4 year university education, books, dorms, food, great coaching in the USA in addition to playing a highly competitive NCAA schedule, the choice seems clear.  Luke Donald went to Northwestern, for example.
