  1. avg is pretty basic- if you do indeed, have clients I would recommend better, paid for ant ivirus. Try Avira premium web suite

  2. The free anti-virus programs are most definitely NOT better than any other. They are passable and decent, but some paid anti-virus programs are so much better. Kaspersky is great, as well as Nod32. Twice as good as the free anti-virus programs, but not without a nominal fee. Anti-Spyware programs are a different story. AdAware, AVG Anti-Spyware, Spyware Doctor, Spybot Search and Destroy, and SuperAntiSpyware are ALL great FREE anti-spyware programs.

The most important thing, however, is your behavior. If you behave properly, you don??t need any type of anti-spyware or anti-virus programs. The problem is, almost no one on the internet behaves properly these days. In either case, if you aren??t willing to pay, I recommend using one of the aforementioned free anti-virus programs (preferably AVG or Avast) and a couple of the anti-virus programs (one of which will be actively blocking spyware, as well as to run full scans of your computer AT LEAST once a month. The second will be used for a secondary full spyware scan along with the first.)

Also, you should watch your behavior. Do not click links in your email. If you want to go to a URL someone (even someone you know) has sent you, type the URL out in the address bar.Be VERY CAREFUL about downloading anything. You should make absolute sure that it is safe. Some websites can infect your computer by using ActiveX controls, so also be very careful about what ActiveX controls you allow when surfing

  3. Avast is a good anti-virus

Avira is also a good anti-virus

  4. Look I use AVG Free and have had no problems with cleaning a system or keeping it clean. I would suggest updating to AVG 8.0 if you are not already there and then updating the virus deffinitions. Reboot the system into safe mode and run the scan. I was working on a pc for a client and could not get this one persistenat virus to go away while I was working out of safe mode. As soon as I ran the scan in safe mode and cleaned the problem, I had no more issues with that virus. I would suggest that you try cleaning the problem there. Good luck.

OH, yeah, I am not a big fan of paid for solutions like Norton or MacAffee.
