Why do ulcers in the mouth sting like billy-o?

  2. The fact is that the mouth is constantly salivating and is full of viruses that enter into the opened ulcer causing the antibodies to come and attack them.

    You might notice that the moment you get a lot of saliva gathering and swallow it, it gives you a temporary relief when the "sting" is gone for a brief moment.

    This is because the saliva caused a flood which caught up both the warring parties and washed them away. Then, it starts all over again. Unfortunately, this will continue till the skin is regenerated over where the tiny rupture happened to let the suppuration and the source of infection out as they were removed when the ulcer burst.

    You could try numbing this with a clove of crushed garlic which you can hold above the ulcer with your tongue as this will give you some respite.
