Question:

Why do underwater (swimming pool) pictures look blue (or more blue) than looking through goggles?

Maybe it's just me...I'm wondering why when I take a underwater picture it looks deep blue but to me - looking through goggles it looks basically clear with only a hint of blue?

It's not the camera, out of the water everything looks the correct color.

  1. Chlorinated water (also water in general but mroe so with chlorine) naturally absorbs most colors on the color spectrum except blue which is reflected back to your eyes. When you take an underwater picture you are introducing more light into the water (the flash) which is reflected back as blue.
