Why do vascular plants have an adaptive advantage over non-vascular plants?

  1. Vascular plants contain xylem and phloem that they are able to use to transport water among their tissues.  This allows them to occupy areas of land that are not always very wet.  Nonvascular plants, which cannot transport water, must remain in wet environments.
