Question:

Why do volcanoes appear in strange places??

or atleast whats considered to be a strange place,in laymans terms please!!

  1. The place became strange BECAUSE of the volcano.  There are many strange places without volcanos.

    Also, one person's strange is another's paradise.  It depends on your point of view.


  2. volcanoes don't tend to appear in strange places. The earth is made up of liquid, and floating on the liquid are lots of big pieces of rock (called plates). The volcanoes tend to appear where these plates meet (called fault lines) as this is where the ground is weakest.

    (sometimes they do appear in the middle of a plate, but only very rarely)

  3. Usually volcanoes form along plate boundaries.  As far as strange places,  I would assume you mean like the Hawaiian Islands or Yellowstone NP.  Those are hot spots.  Areas of upwelling of the earths magma that have nothing to do with plates or subduction zones.
