Why do waiters walk slowly ?

so they don't drop your food, laziness, to appear calm, to keep from tripping, they don't want to wait on you, so they don't bump people.. any number of reasons.  It's not a rule.

i don't think i've ever have seen a waiter walk slowly. but i imagine when they do they are trying not to spill something.

Obviously Waiters walk slowly when the are carrying food so they don't drop the food. Waiters spend long hours on their feet especially in busy restaurants. Their feet are hurting and they are tired.

BECAUSE THEY CANT RUN WITH PLATES... and i have never seen a waiter walk in slow motion or anything they're usually pretty fast... this is stupid

They don't always.  However, when I was waiting tables, I would make it a point to 'cruise' my section every so often.  By walking slowly and making eye contact with someone at the table, it gives them a chance to wave me over to the table.  Some people don't like a waiter checking in every 3 minutes...but they still want to know that you are there to service them.

Waiters walk slowley because, first they do not want to drop anything, and second because they only have to work a serten time period and they are going to do the least they can.

Because they are tiered, they walk all day, and they don't feel the need to run your cheese sticks over to you.   If you wanna see a sprint try the olympics
