Why do waitress (waitors) do these annoying things?

Why do they bring you the condiments before the food (example dressing or syrup) and say, 'I AM JUST BRINGING YOU THE SYRUP FOR YOUR PANCAKES,' I feel like saying "I really don't care"

Why do they (some) ANNOUNCE that they are here and WHAT THEY ARE DOING? Really, we are trying to have a freeking conversation here. Why do they inturupt and say, 'IS EVERYTHING OKAY' YES, I am half done with my food, move on. Only ask me that if I am looking to make eye contact with you and NOT EATING.

And, why do they inturrupt you to ask if you want more COFFEE, if you only took 2 sips from it?

  1. Wow you are pretty harsh.. We are being polite and DREAD seeing people like you come in. Let me guess...you don't tip, either? So if you can't stand us then I want to ask you "Why are you eating out?". AND in response to " I really don't care".......WE DON'T EITHER. We just have to act like we do until we get through school and get a real job.

    Oh...and it's WAITERS

  2. GOOD GRIEF!  WERE YOU IN A BAD MOOD?  THESE FOLKS EARN THEIR LIVING BY GIVING YOU SERVICE.  THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE WELL CARED FOR AND THAT YOU WILL  BE RETURNING TO THEIR RESTAURANT!

MANY RESTAURANTS HAVE STAFF TRAININGS AND DEMAND THAT THEIR STAFF MAINTAIN A PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE AND TRY TO "UP SELL" YOU ON YOUR TICKET.  THE HIGHER YOUR TICKET, THE HIGHER THEIR TIP AND THE MORE PROFIT THAT IS MADE AT THE RESTAURANT.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD REALLY POOR SERVICE?  BE GLAD THAT THEY CARE AND WERE TRYING TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE.  IF YOU DO NOT APPRECIATE THEIR ATTITUDE, GO TO A CAFETERIA.

THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING AND IT JUST LANDED ON YOU WRONG! LIGHTEN UP!

  3. I put things on the table first as its annoying when you bring the plate dish coffee whatever with full intention of getting, sugar, condiment finger bowl, whatever, you just don't have the hands to carry that much and the customer sometimes asks or sometimes snaps to get what you are just about to. When you put things on the table first, bread for soup as an example, often you'll be snapped at that the customer didn't order that as if your trying to get more on their bill.

Maybe its about management or maybe its trying not to get snapped at, as we're not in a position to snap back- can't win in the waitress world

But I'm in oz- so its not so much about the tipping- and most places only serve espresso style coffee- so no free refills

  4. I don't know if I would complain if a waitress/waiter would show that much attention.  I am sick to death of being ignored, ice tea runs out and they ask, do you want more? Are you kidding? YES!  Just returned from vacation and it is amazing how the service changes from place to place.

  5. O.O!

Wow, calm down already.  They are just trying to provide you with great customer service.  Remember, you aren't the only customer they have to wait on, unless you can visibly see you are the only one.

Most waitresses/waiters, who are trying to provide good customer service, try to make sure that everyone is taken care off.  Sometimes, when taking care of one customer's needs, other needs are ingored.  So most waitresses/waiters will make a round to all their tables to check and make sure everything is ok.  Usually, by the time they make one round, someone at one of the tables needs something.  ESPECIALLY if its a busy night.

It could be worse, you know?  You could find that your waitress/waiter never brought your syrup, never refilled your coffee mug, and brings you your food after its been sitting on the counter for 20 minutes.  And when you do make eye contact with them or ask for something, they could get very rude or ingore you all together.

Remember, these waitresses/waiters are getting paid 2-3 dollars an hour.  Their bread and butter comes when you pay the tip, NOT when they get their paycheck.

I know I would rather have a waitress/waiter who was too nice instead of too horrible anyday! : )

  6. They are probably just trying to annoy the customer into leaving. Customer service is a ***** to work in and the fewer you have to deal with, the better you (in general) feel. That might be whyy.

  7. Wow, you're a b*tch. Instead of complaining that your server is making sure everything is going good for you, why don't you be appreciative that they're not completely ignoring you. Servers are required to check up and make sure everything's ok. If they just dropped your food and didn't come back at all, you'd probably complain about that too. Try and chill out a bit and realize that they're just doing their job.

  8. Its pretty much already been said, but that is the servers JOB is to check and make sure that your food is OK, if for whatever reason it was not, or there was a problem, you would defiantly want to tell your server about it, correct? It is our job to serve you food when you come into our establishment, that's how we make a living, and that is our JOB, personally, i dont announce that I'm bringing whatever it is I'm bringing to the table, there is no need, but i imagine alot of places require them to say it for some reason. . Another reason we bring it first is so that you have it there and ready when your food is delivered, saves time, so if server gets busy, ect.. saves having to go get it after your food is delivered, and 1 less thing to have to remember, which is usually alot of info at once.. I try not to interrupt if in a conversation while I'm there to check, but- if i do, i always apologize, its just commom courtesy. By the sounds of it, you are the guest that we all DREAD waiting on ... May b try to understand that were just trying to make a living like everyone else, and appreciate the good service you are receiving, and try not to get too "annoyed", and we will try to do the same....

  9. uhm they dont do it because they want to. they do it because it's their job.if they didnt do what you said which is meant to be polite they'd get fired if their boss saw them.

  10. Ugh. I hate it when servers ask me if my food is to my liking. Who the h**l do they think they are?

If you don't want SERVICE, stay home and cook.

OR, next time a waitress returns promptly to fill your coffee (and announces her presence, because your coffee cup is on the inside of the table, and she can't reach it without sticking her arm in your face, which would be downright rude), just pause briefly, smile, slide your coffee cup to the end of the table and say "Thank-you." Then return to your regularly scheduled yapfest. Really, I'm sure you have a million grossly important things to say at the dinner table, but pausing to express a little gratitude is not a hardship. And if it is, then I'd say life is treating you pretty well. So quit complaining.

  11. Probably because their boss tell them to check on the tables they serve, to make sure they can't get you something else, or if the food is okay....I know that I have a couple of times been like, where is the waitress? And then I tell someone, if you se her, if she walk by, grab her...LOL....I think what you said Is funny, because it does happen when ever you don't need anything, and you just want to have a conversation.
