  1. We are not the only country to change our clocks. Benjamin Franklin, living in Paris, first conceived the notion of rising closer to sunrise to make better use of sunlight. 1996: After many years of non-uniformity of DST policy in Europe, especially between the Continent and the U.K., the European Union including the U.K. adopted a summer time period from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.

As part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the U. S. DST period was extended by about one month, commencing 2007. October 29, 2006 will be the last time that the U.S. and U.K. both move their clocks on the same date. After that, the U.S. will commence DST two or three weeks before the U.K. and end one week later.

The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time (called "Summer Time" in many places in the world) is to make better use of daylight. We change our clocks during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. Countries have different change dates.

  2. We don't do that here in the Philippines.

  3. It began back when the country was more rural and farming was far more common.  It meant that there was an extra hour of daylight for farmers to go out in the field and pick their crops etc.  or so i've always been told

  4. 'Only country'????

I don't know which country you're from, but I think most countries do this - certainly all of Europe, USA and Central America.

It's to make better use of daylight.

  5. so that other countries have more daylight

  6. Huh?  Lots of countries do this.

It is supposed to give more daylight hours in the summer months.  I always thought it was a bit back to front as there is plenty of daylight in the summer months anyway.  They should change it so that we get more daylight in the winter months when we are normally lacking them.

  7. Daylight Savings Time. We change our clocks in the spring to take advantage of the extra daylight hours in the evening. One of the reasons DST was initiated was to help save energy.

We are NOT the only country that observes DST either.  Have a look here:
