  1. I don`t take any notice, if I want to shop, I shop.

  2. i dont allow the church to do anything, you're the only one who does

  3. The church doesn't The government set the shop opening hours

  4. It doesn't dictate, the law dictates and this crumby govt that nobody even admits that they voted for. AND, if it was left to me, ALL the shops would be SHUT on a Sunday to give decent families a little bit of time together like they used to have in this country.

  5. Shops are open all the time?

  6. I think you are referring to Easter Sunday Closures?

It has not anything to do with the Church.

But  rather Govt restrictions to Easter  opening hours, relating

to Bank Hols ?Big Stores opted to close Easter Sun, rather

    than Good Friday .

Anyway, If I had  My Way,  All Shops apart from Baker & Fish Shop would be closed on Good Friday. Also, I believe there

should be a Review with regard to Sunday Opening Times.

We managed before, so why now have we have to be OPEN

    AT ALL TIMES.?

Just A Question of How Greedy & Unwise Society has

Progressed ....FOR  THE BETTER..?...Or Has It......?

    Enough Is Enough....!

  7. Because we like to pretend that the Uk is still a predominently Christian nation despite more people on a Sunday attending Tesco rather than the local Church.

  8. Human beings don't like change and our culture is still clutching to the spluttering, rotting, carcass of what once was christian orthodoxy. The 'bank holidays' aren't really representative of our population anymore...where is the institutional recognition of Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Sikh, Buddhist, Pagan festivals etc?

I enjoy a bank holiday weekend as much as the next girl but it is an interesting question you've posed...the system is pretty antiquated.

  9. I don't, I live in London and I can shop 24/7.

  10. Try this.  The reason the shops are supposed to shut, either on a religious holiday or on a Sunday, is because it is a religious day.  Otherwise we'd all be at work.

It's a bit hypocritical to complain fi we all get a day off, but expect others to work.  And then to complain against the churches, when it is a religious day.

  11. It just means that the corner shops will get all the trade today! lol

  12. To allow some people ..REAL TIME WITH THEIR FAMILIES

  13. This is still a Christian country, don't forget.

There are plenty of Asian shops open, I have been and got my paper and some milk, what's wrong with us keeping hold of our traditions?

Although I do wonder why the Muslims can't all staff Tesco and Asda today, as the Christians do during Eid. That would work.

  14. I don't think the Church should involve itself in anything other than religion.

  15. They do not dictate to me.The church should keep out of my shopping habits.lol

  16. even shop workers deserve a holiday...

  17. I don't need the church, to tell me where to do my shopping, I will shop wherever I want to shop.

  18. In what way does the Church stop you shopping? Is it because you are so sad that you can't go a day without going shopping, or two days counting Christmas day. What a sad life you must lead. If it was up to me all big stores would be closed on a Sunday, and all Bank holidays. Not because I'm religious, but because it's the pure greed of the store owners and the CBI, who's god is money. A lot of the staff at these stores don't get any enhancement for working Sundays or Bank holidays. Or time of in lieu.

  19. Come to Scotland, we don't have stupid opening laws for Sundays - all day baby.

  20. Well there some very good answers on here.

I would just like to point out to Dee L (with respect) that the church has not suddenly started to make laws for us, these laws were set a very long time ago.

The laws of the U.K. where based on the Holy Bible, I would like to see every shop closed on the Sabbath, quote: "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy".

The traditional Jewish Sabbath provided a basis for our distinctively  Christian Sabbath or "Lords Day", The latter title is the more correct, as the early Christians made the first day of the week (the day following the Jewish Sabbath) their day of worship in memory of our Lords Resurrection on that day. Gen2:2; 9Heb. 4:4). and many more.

  21. People who belong to a specific religion may wish to abide by all of their Church's rules. Personally I don't. However Sundays should be a general day off from going to or working in the stores, as I think more people who work all week would like time to spend with their families.

By way of the law they don't dictate directly we've got the trading laws which set the law and that's the way it should stay.

  22. No work on the Sabbath

  23. I thought the trading LAWS dictated when we can go shopping! Didn't realise that the church was suddenly setting legislation - isn't that Parliament.

Personally I say that two days a year when the shops legally have to shut is hardly a big deal really when compared to 364 other shopping days this year.

  24. Why do you want to shop everyday?

There are better things to do, and if you must shop, then go online,

Let the shop workers have a day off, eh?

  25. i totally agree but then agn the church does dictate when we get long weekends :) think about "good" friday and easter monday yaya

  26. because in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word is GOD.

  27. since when do you listen to the church?  i go shopping whenever i want.  i can wake up at 3am and go online and do some shopping if i want.

Plus i think the reasoning for reduced opening hours on sundays is more for employees to get time off than anything religious.
