Why do we believe?

dr.kwack- i purposely did not elaborate on what to believe it. i wanted it to be vague. i wanted to hear [errr... read] people's thoughts.

no its not a stupid question and yes, it can have many, many answers. isnt that the point- to have many answers?

there are 12 people that answered the question before you. and to be honest, they answered it well.

how come you couldnt answer it?

we all  feel like were missing something in life. i guess we are all missing different things. a lot of the population turn to God in that emptyness.

It's better than we do not believe.

Believers will do something to response, to fulfill what they believe, while others will do nothing as there's no need to fulfill.

After the believers do, some of them will have a sense of fulfillment.  Their lives will be more fulfilled than the non-believers.

So, what would you choose?  To believe or not to believe.

because we all have hope.

And in order to have hope, you have to believe.

We believe because we have chose to believe.  Or we have been influenced by others to believe.

Belief is a means of declaring membership in a group.  Humans are social animals so they tend to want to belong to a group.  The group may be a church, community, family, tribe, or society and culture.  Makes no difference what the belief is, you are doing the same thing if you "believe".

If a person is raised in a family where membership is a matter of life and death or ostracism and abandonment at best, belief tends to be a requirement.  Children learn this from an early age.   They realize that membership cannot be questioned therefore beliefs cannot be questioned.

Only those people who have the strength and capability to leave the beliefs and membership behind ever accomplish anything other than perpetuation of the status quo of the group.

For me, too many really bad things happen that really make no sense at all for me to "believe".

Because it makes us feel better. It makes us believe all is going to be good, that you don't control your own destiny.

We believe because sometimes it's all you have.
