Why do we call the time period Shakespeare lived in the Elizabethan era?

I need to do this for a project that is due tomarrow, and I really need a good answer.

Because the Queen at the time was Elizabeth.

There was also Victorian England and Edwardian England.

Because Elizabeth I was Queen.  Were you hoping for something more complicated?
