  1. its all hormones

  2. Above each eye is a tear gland (lacrimal gland) at the far ends of the eyes and can be seen if you evert the eyelid, with ducts that carry the tears to the surface of the conjuctiva(protective layer on the surface of eye). Blinking spreads the tears downwards across each eyeball. Tears contain salts, mucus, antibodies and an enzyme called lysozyme which kills bacteria. they keep the surface of the conjunctiva moist, wash away dust and other particles and help prevent bacterial infection. Tears normally evaporate, but any excess is drained away through a duct that opens at the corner of the eye next to the nose and carries the fluid to the nasal cavity. thus when tears are produced in large quantities for example when a person cries or when the eye is irritated, it is often necessary to blow the nose. if you look closely you can see this hole at the nasal corner of the eye.

I think the facial nerve provides innervation to the tear gland, so when u get emotional you cry, i dont think this really serves a purpose though other than social, as its only humans that do this. Hope ive answered ur Q.

  3. The tears allow your body to get rid of various harmful substances, like salts, adrenaline...
