Usually because I'm bored out of my mind.  I have a few whiskies at lunch time (very soon) have my dinner and put my feet up and bingo the afternoon has gone.  I ready then for another boring evening in front of the TV.  You could rightly say, get on with something, but mostly I'm too old, or the jobs I like are not too much for me. We never get drunk ( actually, we do not do it!) rather the drink does it (makes us drunk). If you do drink, it's only drinking----but when the DRINK starts drinking YOU, that notorious liquid makes you drunk!

Regarding "wife-not-talking": Well, have you heard of Fellow Wife"? Here in this Indian subcontinent, we are accustomed with this word:Swatin"--meaning, a fellow wife, i.e. 1 husband & 2 wives! These two wives are Swatin to each other. Truly speaking, here the wives think (or take) husband's drinks as another wife! How can you expect a 'wife-talks-fine' type?

dont know..i dont drink..and i think it should be banned (funny how they will ban a computer game or a film, but let people poison their bodies isnt it!) just an opinion though...have you tried some industrial strength Nurofen? :-)

very simple. to run away from real life problems and bothering things. to feel better. why do you eat chocolate? tastes good. why do you get drunk? feels good. why do you have s*x? feels good. consequnces for drinking varies on different ppl. i never have hangovers unless i mix drinks. i hav a friends who will get tipsy from 1 shot of %40 alchohol. i hav another who vomits everytime she gets drunk. another has hangovers so doesnt get drunk often at parties, sux for him.

I dont often get drunk but when I do I usually make a complete a*se of myself and usually regret it next day with hangovers and being sick.  But I do enjoy a drink,my drink at the moment is magners cider,its beautiful but I try not to go overboard,usually if I end up drunk other people have baught me drinks lol

i don't do it any more, but it used to be fun to get rat @rsed, have a laugh, sing karaoke, etc, etc. I've grown up now. I'd much rather be sober and be able to drive home.....

i dont drink myself, but other people usually do to have a good times with mates, forget about bad things happening in life , to act cool infront of people loads of different reasons , but no reason is good enough when it comes to harming your health :)

Its as much a drug you know as coke or heroine and can cause as much destruction of a life as those drugs.

People think getting drunk is funny.  It isnt.  We've had alcoholics in our family and seen the destruction it has caused.  It all started out so easy.  A few bevvies, the habit of getting a bit merry at the weekends and before we knew it, alcoholism had taken a hold.

Its what it does to you that makes me scratch my head in puzzlement.

Why would you want to destroy brain cells, pickle your liver, lose hours of your life you cant remember, fall over and hurt yourself and see everything through the miniscus of a wine bottle?  And all in the name of enjoyment?

Don't do drunk. I like to be in control of my mind & body. Yes I like a drink but am sensible with any alcohol intake and know when to stop.

Don't drink at all. Never have, never will. I have a perfectly good time when I go out without the need for alcohol, without throwing my guts up when I get home, without spending all my hard-earned cash on something that gets p*ssed down the toilet at the end of the night...and I wake up feeling great without a hangover in sight! So when all those people are saying 'oh come on and get p*ssed' when I'm out, I can feel extremely smug, get up early and go shopping the next day. And have the delightful feeling that they're all in bed feeling downright bloody awful. It's self-inflicted and I have no sympathy. You wanna get drunk - deal with the consequences. If your wife's giving you a hard time - good. So she should.

i guess just to forget whats real! like problems,debt,rent,lack of money, or just to forget who we are, be someone else for a few hours i guess, for better or for worse..i just hope u dnt become all agressive and stuff, hope ur the kind that when drunk laughs at anytrhing...'look a fork!! Looooolllll" i said that once and almost peed myself laughing. I dont know why but sometimes u need to go a little bit crazy to stay sane!!!
