it historical. it originates before cars. its because most people are right handed, hence when you draw your sword its in your right hand, nearer to your enemy than if we drove on the left.

Your question is wrong, it should "Why does everyone else drive on the right"? It's a complicated question, but generally, most people are right handed, work it out from there.

I can only guess it was to be different and contrary, since it is Napoleon Bonaparte who introduced the very first system of Highway code in Paris (to start with). It got some success and became widely applied through Europe and further afield.
