Generally, why would any creature feel disgust?

Why would we have evolved it?

I can't see any uses for it.

  1. My theory: our brain is over-evolved and is a mistake. It didn't help us adapt to our environment it just makes us over think things. I mean, do you see dolphins getting depressed and going off to kill themself! We feel disgust because our brain is very advanced and allows us to think and perceive things better and connect to them on an emotional level whether it be disgust or something else.

For the person who mentioned the dog issue. Dogs eat their own excrements... so your point is futile.

  2. Think of disgusting things- vomit, body waste, decomposing organisms, rotten food.  What do they all have in common?  Most have multitudes of possibly pathenogenic bacteria.  Perhaps we are hard wired to be disgusted as a protection mechanism.

  3. Other creatures display disgust too.  Try feeding a dog something it does not like and you will see that look.  Try giving a cat a pill and tell me that face is not disgust.

  4. To avoid bacteria that causes disease. f***s we have learnt to find disgusting because it is packed with bacteria. Dead animals we find disgusting because it is packed with bacteria. And we dont want the diseases that bacteria causes because that would threaten our survival now wouldnt it
