Why do we get so absorbed in our dreams?

Our brain being as "aware" as it is, how come in dreams our consciousness isn't easily aware of its circumstances?

  1. The waking subconscious becomes the dreaming conscious.  Unless and until the waking subconscious is more integrated into lucidity, dreaming is more cocooning.
