In an attempt to educate or indoctrinate the public.  Actually if no one watched them, they would not remain on the air.

actually what we as americans get in the way of 24/7 news is the equivalent of clasping a groin and moving it up and down or back and forth what ever is your personal choice.

Strict profitability , therefore constant airtime.

TV Stations have heads, and therefore agendas. They have shareholders, and therefore profitability matters.

TV Content means little, as viewers are 'locked in' to patterns of watching - so the content can varry wildly, from meaningless paris hilton infomercial to semi important pop culture political issue.

The best news source, is the source that watches legislation, and votes on it. You are not getting the real news when it ignores a politicians vote, and takes his performance speech audio track as gospel.
