Nobody goes the speed limit and Law Enforcers don't do anything about it. One Example. Hyway 2 Edmonton to Calgary. speed limit 110 km. Try going that. You get Honked at, Fingered, Passed and cut off. Etc. You feel like a criminal if you go the speed limit. WHY IS THAT?????

  1. The do ticket at times.  It all depends on how heavy traffic is.  most of the time if your not weaving in and out of traffic acting dumb they wont stop you cause its not worth the time.  Highways are meant to move traffic faster.

  2. I know. I have driven on major interstates--and tried going to speed limit...However, I'm the one who as you said, I'm the one who almost gets ran over. It seems as though some law enforcement wants to do anything until something bad happens--then of course, its too late...

  3. Two reasons.  Driver safety and revenue.  To some extent it is about keeping drivers safe.  You can make the argument that it's none of the government's business to regulate how you live your life and if you want to endanger yourself, you should be allowed to.  But you're also endangering other innocent people on the roads which is the real safety reason.  Second, by having speed limits, they have the ability to ticket you.  Knowing people will speed and tickets will be issued, goverments build them into their budgets expecting a certain amount of funding to come from that.  That's why when a law that doesn't make sense stays on the books, it's ususally because it's a money maker.

  4. Because if there were no posted speed limits, the idiots who crash would sue the local town for "doing absolutely nothing" to curb speeding. (even though THEY acted recklessly)

Speed limits are the result of highway sudies. A speed limit is set because the study indicated that the posted speed limit is the safest for that particular highway. Some highways where I live are still 55mph, and with good reason. Too many access points that give drivers trying to merge in not much time or space. A lot of them are only two lanes.

Other highways I have traveled driving to/from Florida are posted at 70mph, and rightly so. 3 and 4 lanes as opposed to 2 lanes. Much better visibility. Lots of room & time for merging traffic.
