Why do we have a Team GB and not a Team UK?

We have NI athletes in Team GB. NI is British after all!

  1. Because they are idiots.


  2. 'Great' is a more accurate description of the situation in our country than 'united'. NI is British only until we can find a face-saving formula to hand it back to Eire to which it properly belongs.

    BTW, didn't the English cyclist do well to win our first gold! Since she did, she's English. Otherwise, she's a taffy (a term we English use).

  3. The UK includes northern ireland. GB is England, Scotland and Wales. Ireland have there own team, so calling it the UK would be inaccurate.

Well you can bet sooner or later the Great Britain team will be renamed to something like team UK or  mixed nationalities Team as it would probably be deemed offensive to name anything 'GB' or 'Great Britain' due to the number of foreign nationals / religions we have living here. Just look at the 'Proms' etc. the MPs had to complain that they were just too British.
