Why do we have diseases?

My best-friend just died of cancer...why did god give us a world with diseases? I understand that there has to be balance and the world needs to have good and bad things...but WHY?

Because

It's God's way of telling someone it's their time

OR

It's to kill off the idiots.

I don't think it has anything to do with god. God just made things and left us to deal with it. Disease is a natural occurrence.  It's not a perfect world and we are not perfect animals. Some of us have to die young. I am sorry about your friend and mine.
