Why do we have "authority"? Where did it come from?

I am looking for *empirical* data concerning the "evolution?" of authority. (i am not interested in philosophy like kant or plato)

so far i cannot make heads or tails of it, but i thing "controll animals" in herds may be a good point to start. can anyone point me to some website, paper, book, journal, thesis or dissertation - or throw some terms out there, so that i have a few starting-points for my research?

anything about homo sapiens sapiens after 3000-2000 BC is not really helpful...

  1. seriously it has a lot to do with, showing off and making others believe in you, in short being able to tell good stories and making others believe in you and what you are saying.

Story telling is very important, for 'Homo narran incredulus' I believe that fits much better as a name, than the arrogant Sapian sapian, we have given ourselves.
