Why do we have so many religious morons in our country?

Compared to Europe or Japan, why are we such a religiously oriented country?

We seem to have no shortage of these idiot religious fundamentalists on both the "right" and "left" that's preaching idiotic messages to morons that will listen to them.

What's up with that? Are we a country full of morons and inbreds?

i agree with you. here's an example, abstinence only s*x education. europe and asia teach real s*x ed while we don't. the reason for it is in large part because of religious beliefs, yet europe and asia don't have anywhere near the problem with teen pregnancy that america has.

Our country was founded on religous ideations.  Christmas is a national holiday for that very reason.  Many other countries were not.  I would hesitate to call others whose view you don't share morons, as I am not an athiest, yet they are not morons.  I am not Mormon, catholic, Jewish or muslim yet it does not make me feel better by defaming their beliefs.  Many in this country should probably stand back and say;  Just why are the so called tolerant in our society not so much so.  Define inbreeding and idiotic messages.  Just one more question.  Who is the more foolish, the fool or the one who follows him?

I'm religious and I am certainly not a moron, but I do know and have encountered the fundamentalists you refer to. I sat next to one for 7 months and had to listen to her proselytize constantly telling me I was going to h**l because I wasn't born again, picking her nose and wiping it on her clothes the whole time.

Well I'm from Europe, and I defo think that Americans tend to have stronger religious views than us.

I've watched a few programs when American men and women adopt children in poverty, sometimes they say "a gift from God."

Well, people wouldn't usually say things like that here, unless it was something REALLY BIG.

We have a lot of problems in the U.S. I think people turn to religion to find some comfort.

I'm not religious. I wasn't brought up that way.

You could just as easily ask why so many intolerant anti-religious people are in spoiled, rich N. America where more people worship at the alter of Consumerism that Anglicanism or Catholicism or whatever.

But to answer your question, there is a historical background to it. And its very important politically to offer and protect the right to religious freedom as well as the right to offer opinions on the intelligence of people who are religious.
